Add in the pressures of working in the legal industry, and it’s no wonder that at least 50% of lawyers in Canada have experienced significant stress, burnout, or anxiety.
Resilient by Design will help you to regain your control by nudging you to develop robust and practical habits for thriving in the legal industry.
The Resilient by Design Program has a competency-based curriculum that integrates resilience-enhancing best practices and the neuroscience of behaviour change to help you positively impact your health, wellbeing and ultimately resilience.
In module one we explore the habits and behaviours which support our physical mastery. We learn how sleeping deep, eating consciously and moving often are the keys to improved health, increased energy, higher cognitive function and reduced stress.
In module two we delve into the practices that support our mental and emotional well-being. We explore and practice mindfulness. We experience the benefits of a positive mindset and discover the full value of authentic connections. Finally, we delve into work recovery and boundary setting.
In module three we develop an intentional orientation. Resilient individuals tend to have purpose, know their values and have a vision that is compelling to them and which informs their decisions. In this module we discover what is important to us, articulate our values, and create a vision for our lives.
You will learn experientially – gaining knowledge about best practices and then move into deliberate action through weekly challenge exercises.
The program will be delivered in a hybrid model offering live web sessions as well as online lessons and content. The lessons will be released weekly and will be accompanied by resources to help you cement your learning. Each lesson will build on the previous lesson so that you know exactly what to focus on first, second, and third. There will be three live sessions; one near the start, one midway and one at the conclusion of the program.

The program is for busy legal professionals struggling to get it all done; for people wanting to thrive in our new 24/7 competitive, disrupted reality but not knowing how to. If you are stressed, overwhelmed and running all the time and if you feel like you could be better, do better and get better results but don’t know how.
Each weekly video lesson is between 15 and 60 minutes long. After each lesson you will complete a challenge exercise and implement a resilience-enhancing habit. Completing the challenge exercise should take no more than 10 minutes. The time it takes to implement your new habit is up to you based on your chosen habit. For example, if you decide to start bringing a healthy lunch to work you will need to schedule in some time for that.
Each lesson is like an interactive textbook. You will have access to a pre-recorded lesson, a challenge exercise, additional learning and an opportunity to learn from peers via the discussion forum. You will also be urged to find an accountability partner during the program to help you with staying true to your development of resilience-enhancing habits and commitments.
The secret to success of the Resilient by Design program lies in what is referred to as neuroplasticity. Neuroplasticity is an umbrella term referring to the ability of your brain to reorganize itself, both physically and functionally, due to your environment, behavior, thinking, and emotions.
The program creates a new environment for you to engage in and challenges you to new ways of thinking (knowledge) and new ways of behaving (intentional action) in order to build new neuropathways that contribute to your resilience and supercharge your overall wellness.
In other words, this program provides the platform for real positive change through knowledge, intentional action, accountability, emotional engagement and reinforcement. All critical factors in new neuropathway creation.
Not a problem – the program is flexible, and course fee payments provide 180 days of full course access and certificate eligibility. We suggest you complete one lesson per week but you won’t be penalized for not following this schedule as long as you complete the program in 180 days.
Yes! If you complete the program within 180 days, your electronic certificate will be sent to you via email you can print your certificate or add it to your LinkedIn profile. Note that the program certificate does not represent official academic credit.
Resilient by Design is an on-line program. As long as you have access to the internet you have access to the content anytime and anywhere. You can also learn on any device including iPhone or android.
